At the Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast, hospitality is our number one goal for your stay in our home. We want you to feel comfortable, welcomed, and relaxed. If you are traveling with your pet, we will make every effort possible to see that your stay is enjoyable for everyone (please review the note from Pulaski, Pet Host, in Pet Guest Information). We are here to help you have a wonderful stay and enjoy all that Orcas Island has to offer!
Enjoy the music from Christopher Peacock, a well-known resident pianist at the Rosario Resort on Orcas Island. The selection is called "Orca Song" from his CD, Island Life. For more information go to Pure and Simple

Breakfast RecipesWe often get asked for our breakfast recipes. This year, we are offering a collection of recipe cards for only $5.00. Our design for the cards comes from an awesome product offered by Alison, creator of "Tried and True Recipes". You can create your own recipe collection using the flashdrive and directions that comes with the "Delicious Recipe Sets" . They can be purchased from her website, www.andsothere.comThe Snow is Soooo Beautiful!Conflicting weather reports have left us a little confused here on West Sound Bay. Up to today, only snow flurries and clear roads prevailed while other parts of the island were inundated with snow. However, we are now in the midst of gusty winds and a snow covered scene. Reports say that it will rain by the weekend and the snow will vanish. I will hate to see it go, but it will be a lot easier for our guests coming from Ogden, Utah, to get to us here at the Blue Heron B&B.Places to GoI have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots.Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone. I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work. I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore. I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often. I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older. One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get! I may have been in Continent, and I don't remember what country I was in. It's an age thing. Have you been to the Blue Heron B&B on Orcas Island? Much better than any of these places to go. Trees are BuddingThe sun is out and there is a rose on the bush inside the front entrance of the Blue Heron B&B. As beautiful as it is, the small farmers and avid gardeners on Orcas Island are a little concerned. When plants and trees are not dormant when the frost comes, it can do a lot of damage. We are getting some new landscaping this spring, so we are not as concerned and are just loving the brilliance of the sun as it bounces off the water of West Sound Bay!Time for RenovationsWhen the wind howls and the rains come down, it gets pretty quiet on the island. It is the best time for any repairs, remodels, or renovations to be made to this 101 year old house. This week, the living room got painted by a professional and it looks awesome! One of the guest rooms is next for painting after the complete renovation of one of the bathrooms that has had a squishy floor for over a year. Oh, dear! What a mess! But didn't the living room come out nice?Where have we been? We're back! We travel in the quiet season and this year we had three wonderful trips:Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia with a two day trip to Washington DC to tour Capitol Hill and the White House (and yes! we thought we saw Beau's tail go into a bush), a busy trip to our old stomping grounds, San Diego, where we stayed in an awesome timeshare called Coronado Beach Resorts, and then Portland for Christmas where we had a blast with our son, James. Last night we had some nice guests with a huge Italian Mastiff named Rufus. He loved his first B&B experience at the Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast! The Rains are HereI love the rain! I can hear it now on the skylight in the office of the Blue Heron B&B. It is the signal for the start of our quiet season...a time of lower prices, great gift shop sales, and warm tea and muffins around a warm fire in the living room. Do you write? Do you scrapbook? Do you want to relax and read a good book? Come to Orcas!A Day of RestFor all intent and purposes, another busy summer season has passed and the Fall shoulder season is here at the Blue Heron B&B. With a day off, hours loaming ahead, I grabbed a book that a friend loaned me called Heaven is Real. It is about a four year old boy with an emergency surgery going to heaven and returning with information that correlates with the Bible that no four year old could have known unless he was an eyewitness. It was a page turner, and because I choose to believe in such things, I enjoyed it immensely!Creative Room Key tagsA wonderful guest gave us some new room key tags that have doggie prints and hang on the doors. They are different and very fun! It is definitely an upgrade from the broken and missing key chains that were hanging very unattractively from the doors. Check this out... We're Back!Days can go by and then you realize, "Yikes! I haven't blogged anything!" and there have been amazing things to blog about. The Blue Heron Bed and Breakfast had their very first wedding with Sandy Playa as the officiant. We all (that was all 8 of us, including the bride and groom :) went out to the dock. It was a beautiful day and there are some outstanding pictures as the sun set and the moon rose on the water. Two of the wedding party were guests from Dublin,Ireland, and they had never seen (or been in) a wedding quite like this. Even Pulaski, our pet host, can be seen in some of the pictures. He never did settle down, being so excited to be in his first wedding. |
