Traveling to the San Juan Islands is easy, and the scenery along the way is spectacular!  The San Juan Islands are located in the waters between northwest Washington State and Victoria, B.C., Canada (on Vancouver Island).  Getting to the San Juan Islands requires transportation by water or air -- aboard a Washington State Ferry, passenger boat, or airplane.  There are no bridges connecting the islands to the mainland.

The San Juan Islands are located approximately 3 hours by car and ferry from Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia.

By Ferry:

Your vacation begins the moment you board a ferry.  Sit back, relax and adjust to “island time” as you enjoy your cruise through emerald isles on blue seas.  The San Juan Islands ferries depart several times each day from Anacortes, Washington, and serve the following four islands: Lopez, Orcas, Shaw and San Juan, as well as Sidney, B.C., Canada.  Fares to the San Juan Islands include a round trip.  To get to Anacortes from Seattle drive approximately one hour north on Interstate 5 to Exit 230, follow Highway 20 west to Anacortes (for an additional thirty minutes), follow Commercial Avenue north, take a left on 12th St., then continue west for approximately two miles to the Anacortes ferry terminal.  The Washington State Ferry offers ferry service for cars, bikes, and walk-on passengers from Anacortes.  The ferry ride is around one hour from Anacortes to Orcas Island. Arrive at the ferry landing early and expect to wait at least an hour or two during busy tourist months in the summer.

When you arrive in Orcas, exit left from the ferry on Orcas Road. At the first four way intersection, turn left at Deer Harbor Road. Be sure to look for the Deer Harbor road sign. There are no stop signs and it is easy to drive right past the turn. After turning, continue until you pass Crow Valley Road. We are the third building on the right. Look for the Blue Heron sign and turn into the driveway. We are about 7 minutes from the ferry.

By Air: Kenmore Air Land and Sea Planes schedule several daily flights from Lake Union and Boeing Field (near downtown Seattle) to Rosario, Deer Harbor, and West Sound Bay, within walking distance to the Blue Heron.  San Juan Airlines has flights between Anacortes and Orcas Island. Northwest Sky Ferry has tours and flights from Bellingham.

By Bus or Shuttle: There is an airport shuttle from Seattle called Belair Shuttle that will take you to the ferry landing. Greyhound service will take you as far as Mt. Vernon.

By Boat: Mooring is available close by. Please call or e-mail for details. West Sound Marina

"Orcas is quite the paradise and your Bed and Breakfast quite the beautiful, charming, peaceful, homey refuge...the exact tonic my soul was craving. You have created the perfect sanctuary for rest..."
